About the Foundation
Body Text
The Frost and Margaret Snyder Foundation exists solely to support the Roman Catholic Church. The foundation was established in 1957 by Frost and Margaret Snyder from Tacoma, Washington. Since 1994, the foundation has awarded $18,000,000 in charitable grants to support the works of the Catholic Church. The foundation primarily awards grants to projects in the Archdiocese of Seattle, as well as to Religious Orders, with an emphasis on entities in Pierce County, where the donors lived. Grants are awarded yearly in September and the application window is March 1 to June 1.
There are three trustees who annually evaluate requests for funding. Investments are in trust and managed professionally, independent of the trustees. One trustee is appointed by the Jesuit West Province, one by the Archdiocese of Seattle, and the third is agreed upon by the other two trustees. Each year these appointments are reviewed by their sponsors. Trustees must be residents of Pierce County, WA.
Initially the Snyder’s were sole trustees, later their daughters, Catharine Kendall Brockert and Margaret Cunningham. Currently the trustees are Christopher Gavin, Mario Paredes and Mary Cunningham Smith.
All awards go to projects with 501c(3) non-profit status.
